Staňková, Eva ; Tvrdek, Petr (advisor) ; Špačková, Alena (referee)
Annotation: Málková, Eva. Church Music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Prague: Hussite Theological Faculty, Charles University, 2012. Thesis. The aim of this thesis is to introduce church music of Johann Sebastian Bach and its theological announcement. By looking up and appraising musical-theological elements at Bach's work this thesis brings near to the reader the theological, philosophical and mystic thinking of Bach. By pre-understanding and complexity of perception of Bach's church music is possible to see deep sense and aim of artist's work. In the first (theoretical) part I am engaged in systems of thinking that could Bach's church work influence. Then I am specifying the pieces that are supposed to be church music. In the second (practical) part I am looking for musical- theological elements that could Bach be influenced with. By researching of Bach's artistic style I am trying to find correlation of musical and theological contents and I am trying to point out that the message of Bach's church work is relevant.
Healing interventions of Jesus
Abstract This paper attempts to map topic of illness and healing in ancient Israel from a biblical perspective. It focuses first on the Old Testament stories of healing by prophets and then on the New Testament stories when Jesus and his...

Zavadil, Tomáš ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
Title: Psalm 118 in The New Testament Author: Tomáš Zavadil Department: Department of The New Testament Supervisor: doc. Jiří Mrázek, Th.D. Abstract: The purpose of my thesis is to analyze the usage of the Psalm 118 in The New Testament. The thesis consists of several parts; first, I give a list of all quotations and allusions of the psalm in The New Testament according to the edition Nestle-Aland. Next, I show links between the texts, describe how the original text enriches the meaning of the new contexts and how the intertextuality can be used in biblistic research. In contrast to traditional approach I emphasize the contribution of one-word allusions. I'm also trying to offer historical background of the Psalm and show its use in liturgy, especially in the context of the first century; as the Psalm was one of the most favourite Psalms. The following part of my work gives brief explanations of the passages in The New Testament where their authors quote or refer to the the Psalm 118. I focus especially on pericopes Mk 11,1-11 and Mk 12,1-12, where I analyze the allusions of the Psalm 118 in detail. The conclusion summarizes all findings of this exegetic work. Key words: quotation, allusion, Psalm 118, The New Testament, Jesus, Messiah, king, salvation, stone, feasts, intertextuallity
The Concept of Hope in the Epistles of Apostle Paul
Sluka, Jiří ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The work deals with the epistles of Paul the Apostle. Using Greek concordance, it searches for verses containing the words hope and to hope, analyzes them, and examines the context where Paul writes about hope. The analysis is then used to create generalizing characteristics: who or what, according to Paul, is a source of hope, what is its object or goal, what are its effects, how to distinguish beneficial hope from ineffective and harmful hope, what is the connection and order of virtues in the Faith - Love - Hope triad. The work also takes into account some parts expressing hope without explicitly mentioning the term, in addition to the expressed use of the word hope. It evaluates the obtained proper findings and compares them with published conclusions of other authors in professional biblical literature from the end of the 20th century to the present and with the opinion of two modern important ecclesiastical documents dealing with hope. The conclusions of the work show Paul as a biblical author who uses the concept of Christian hope extremely often in a wide range of contexts and whose epistles have a reference meaning for understanding this concept. Hope is significantly Christocentric in Paul's presentation with a very close relationship to faith and love. The work outlines general...

Plašil, Šimon ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
The aim of this diploma theses is to find philosophical, religious and ideological motifs in the work of Ladislav Fuks and subsequently interpret their origin, intertextuality and meaning in the text. The emphasis is put on proving the semantic functionality in the story. For our research, we have selected following works: Mr. Theodore Mundstock, The Cremator, and Addressing from the Darkness. We will study philosophical and theological literature, as well as materials from the archives and from the estate of Ladislav Fuks in order to base all the findings on the biographical author, too. The thesis is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter we deal with basic literary characteristics of the selected books and their literary reception. The second chapter discusses Ladislav Fuks' relationship to philosophy, being anchored in both his friends' testimonies and the archival research of his estate. The third chapter is the most important and the most comprehensive one since it deals with the interpretation of philosophical motifs in each of the selected books. In the fourth chapter we compare individual philosophical motifs from different works with each other. We summarize the findings at the end of the theses.
